Have you ever been confused by the distinction between bolts and nuts splitters? If yes, then you’re not the only one. Although the two components may appear similar from afar, there are many differences between them. Let’s look at nuts and bolts to learn more about their distinctions.
What are Bolts?
Bolts are cylindrical, long fasteners with threads affixed along their lengths and a head on one end. The goal of bolts is to bring two or more objects with the aid of the bolt. The bolt’s one end has threads external to the lines on the nut, which allows the two pieces to be joined securely and form an excellent bond. Different kinds of bolts are the lag screw, carriage bolt caps with hex screws, and eye bolts.
What are Nuts?
Nuts are threaded cylinders made of metal featuring an internal thread pattern that lines to external threads on any bolt size. If properly tightened using a wrench or another tool for drawing, nuts ensure that objects are secure against any movement or vibration caused by external forces like wind or machinery. The most common types of nuts are hexagonal nuts and round-headed nuts, U-nuts, square-headed nuts (also called “U-bolts”), castle nuts, lock washers, and jam nuts.
What is Bolt Splitter?
A bolt splitter tool is an instrument designed to split bolts and threaded rods. It is typically comprised of two cutting jaws placed on top of the bolt, and after that, a mechanical or hydraulic action is employed to break it into two parts. Bolt splitters can be extremely helpful when bolts are damaged, broken, corrupted, or tight-fitting and require removal or replacement.
What is Nut Splitter?
In contrast, is designed specifically to extract stuck or damaged nuts off bolts. It is equipped with a hardened cutting tool inserted into the side of the nut, and as the mechanism exerts pressure, the nut gets divided and then gradually loosens from the bolt. Nut splitters are typically employed when nuts are damaged, rusted, or tightened too much and are difficult to take off using conventional methods.
Working
Nut Splitter:
- This nut-splitting device is positioned on top of the seized or stubborn nut, which must be removed.
- The sharpened cutting blade used to split the nut is placed against the nut’s side—nuts, generally at 90 degrees.
- The cutting tool is forced through the nut when the force can be applied to the device by hand or via a hydraulic or mechanical system.
- The cutting tool gradually cut through the nut with a steady force, breaking it into two pieces.
- When the nut splits, it loosens its grip on the bolt threads and allows the bolt to be easily removed.
Bolt Splitter:
- A bolt splitter can be placed on top of the threaded rod or bolt that must be removed.
- The jaws that cut the splitter bolt are aligned with the bolt, ensuring they are parallel to one of their counterparts.
- Mechanical or hydraulic force applies to the splitter of a bolt, creating enormous tension between the jaws of cutting.
- The force generated by the tool results in the cutting jaws being able to slowly slice into the bolt, breaking it into two pieces.
- After the bolt has been removed, the two pieces are easily removed and reinstalled, which allows for removal.
